Подготовка татарами большого набега

Первый этап войны между Россией и Речью Посполитой (1654—1656 гг.) ознаменовался, как известно, большими успехами русской армии на Украине, в Белоруссии, в Литве. Русское правительство не исключало тогда возможности круп­ного вторжения татар в Россию. Сведения о подготовке татарами большого набега дохо­дили в 1654 г. до Москвы по различным каналам. Одной из причин того, что набег ни в 1654 г., ни в 1655 г. так и не со­стоялся, было существование укреплений Белгородской чер­ты. Крымские татары направлялись всегда в набег с целью грабежа и захвата пленных, их не привлекала перспектива длительных боев с защитниками черты.
В конце 50-х годов XVII в. международная обстановка на западных и южных рубежах России осложнилась. В войне со Швецией России не удалось вернуть земли у Финского залива и получить выход к Балтийскому морю. В 1658 г. после двухлетнего перемирия возобновилась война с Польшей. Тяжелым ударом для России была измена украинского гет­мана И. Выговского. В сентябре 1658 г. вопреки воле украин­ского народа И. Выговский подписал Гадячский договор о передаче Украины панской Польше. Польское правительство ценой уступок украинской шляхте и казацкой старшине стре­милось удержать Украину в составе Речи Посполитой. Одно­временно И. Выговский заключил союз с татарами и призвал на Украину крымского хана. Мухаммед-Гирея. 28 июня 1659г. русские войска потерпели поражение от объединенных сил И. Выговского и крымского хана под Конотопом. Для татар открылся путь в Россию в обход укреплений Белгородской черты, и Мухаммед-Гирей не преминул воспользоваться слу­чаем.
От Конотопа отряды татар направились для грабежа в Рыльский, Путивльский и Новгород-Северский уезды, а 26 июля из-под г. Гадяча двинулись в набег основные силы врага. Политическая обстановка на Украине позволила тата­рам избрать местом сосредоточения сил не приазовские сте­пи, как раньше, а густонаселенный район Украины, располо­женный западнее Белгородской черты. На пути у татар не оказалось серьезных укреплений. В пределы Белгородского разряда они ворвались с северо-запада (!). Захваченный 5 августа в бою в Мценском уезде татарин сказал, что с ха­ном идут 50 тысяч татар и 10 тысяч черкас — сторонников И. Выговского. (Фактически татар и черкас было, видимо. меньше). Путь татар в русских пределах напоминает по фор­ме дугу. Во время набега они подвергли разорению села и деревни в Орловском, Мценском, Чернском, Новосильском, Ефремовском, Ливенском, Елецком уездах, дошли с запада до Воронежского уезда. Некоторые отряды татар отделялись от основных сил к югу, к уездам, расположенным у Белго­родской черты. Городов татары не осаждали. Захватив плен­ных и большие стада скота, грабители поспешили уйти из России по Кальмиусской дороге. Осуществить этот крупный набег татарам удалось не из-за слабости Белгородской чер­ты, а благодаря исключительно выгодной для них политической обстановка на Украине и поражению русских войск под Конотопом.
И. Выговскин не продержался долго у власти на Украи­не. В 1659 г против него вспыхнуло общенародное восста­ние. И. Выговскнй бежал в Польшу, а казацкая старшина выдвинула Юрия Хмельницкого — сына чтимого народом Богдана Хмельницкого на пост гетмана Однако Ю. Хмель ницкий оказался марионеткой в руках той части старшины, которая по примеру И. Выговского ориентировалась на Поль­шу и готова была для осуществления своих целей призвать на Украину татар. Сначала Ю. Хмельницкий возобновил пре­рванные дружеские отношения с Русским государством, уста­новленные при его отце, но в 1660 г. заключил в Слободищах на Волыни новое соглашение с Польшей об отторжении Украины от России. Украинский народ не признал и этого договора. Против Ю. Хмельницкого вспыхнуло восстание, при помощи польской армии Ю Хмельницкий сумел до 1663 г. удержать за собой только правобережную Украину. При подавлении народных движений, в борьбе со своими соперниками и русскими войсками Ю. Хмельницкий опирал­ся на помощь татар.
Пользуясь русско-польской войной и неустойчивой политической обстановкой на Украине, вступая в союз то с одни­ми, то с другими представителями украинской казацкой стар­шины, крымские татары продолжали грабить украинский на­род. В 60-х годах XVII в. у татар сохранялись возможности и для вторжений в Россию, в обход Белгородской черты. В эти годы Белгородский полк был обращен фронтом на за­пад и юго-запад, полк участвовал в русско-польской войне и в борьбе с татарами на Украине. В 1662 г. татарам удалось ворваться с запада в Курский и Обоянский уезды, где им был дан отпор.
Даже в такой, в общем неблагоприятной для России по­литической ситуации на Украине, которую мы видим в конце 50-х и начале 60-х годов XVII в., Белгородская черта сыграла свою роль. Она не могла прикрыть юго-западные русские уезды со стороны Украины, но она надежно защищала с юга Верхнее Подонье, Рязанский край, те русские земли, куда прежде вторгались татары по степным дорогам из Приазовья.
Да и глубокий прорыв татар с запада от Орла и Мценска к Ельцу в 1659 г. был все же единичным эпизодом.
