Белгородская черта в в 1655—1656 гг

На Белгородской черте не осталось в 1655 г. крупных подвижных войск. После ухода армии В. Б. Шереметева в 1654 г. формальное руководство вооруженными силами на черте передавалось воеводе г. Яблонова И. И. Ромодановскому, с которым в случае татарского вторжения должны бы­ли «сходиться» воеводы окрестных городов.
Крымские татары в 1655—1656 гг. не делали попыток вторгнуться в Россию через Белгородскую черту. Захватив огромный полон в пределах Украины и Польши в предшест­вовавшие годы, они и после воссоединения Украины с Рос­сией продолжали ориентироваться на вторжения на Украи­ну,— теперь только «в союзе» не с Б. Хмельницким, а с поль­ским королем. Воссоединение с Россией резко изменило отно­шения Украины с Крымским ханством. Получив опору в России, Украина могла разорвать вынужденный союз с крымски­ми татарами, который, по выражению А. А. Новосельского, «был настоящей трагедией для украинского народа». Рус­ский и украинский народы могли теперь сообща выступить против грабителей-татар.
Для отвлечения крымских татар от вторжения в Россию и на Украину вновь (как и в 1646 г.) намечалось организо­вать морской поход русских войск к берегам Крымского по­луострова. Для этой цели было построено в верховьях Дона и сосредоточено в Воронеже 30 мореходных судов. В 1655 г эти суда должны были использовать русские ратные люди, направляемые с воеводами Ф. Н. Одоевским и В. Б. Волкон­ским с Волги в низовья Дона. Поход русских войск в ни­зовья Дона не состоялся, но задачу удержания на несколько месяцев татар в Крыму с блеском выполнила объединенная морская флотилия донских и украинских казаков.
Казачья флотилия отплыла из Черкасска 6 июля 1655 г. В походе участвовало 2030 донских казаков и 700 запорож­цев. Командиром был донской атаман Павел Чесночихин. В течение двух месяцев казаки плавали у Крымского полу­острова, неоднократно высаживались на берег, захватили большую добычу, освободили 130 русских и украинских плен­ников. Не потеряв ни одного струга, 14 сентября возвратились казаки в Черкасск. Турецкий флот, ослабленный по­ражением в войне с Венецией, не противодействовал казакам. Пока казачья флотилия находилась у берегов Крыма, основ­ные силы крымских татар не могли покинуть полуострова. Это способствовало успешному для России исходу летней кампании 1655 г. в русско-польской воине.
После воссоединения Украины с Россией значительно больший размах приняло переселение украинцев в районы, непосредственно прилегающие к Белгородской черте. До 1654 г. переселение украинцев в Россию было переходом из одного государства в другое, что вызывало, естественно, по­литические трудности. Теперь переселение проходило в пре­делах одной страны. Страдая от бедствий войны на Украи­не, а также используя определенное затишье в татарских на­бегах на русские земли, украинцы начали быстро заселять свободные земли «за чертой». Уже в 1654 г. «черкасы с же­нами и детьми» пошли жить на Царево-Борисово городи­ще. Другая группа украинских переселенцев обоснова­лась у Ахтырского городища. Впереди Белгородской черты украинцы строили укрепленные острожки. Западную часть Белгородской черты постепенно стали закрывать от татар укрепленные поселения черкас. Одновременно выявился и один военно-стратегический минус в расположении Белгород­ской черты, который трудно было предвидеть. Западный фланг Белгородской черты, примыкавший прежде к русской границе, теперь оказался как бы повисшим в воздухе. За­паднее, на территории Украины, в бывших пределах Речи Посполитой не было никаких укрепленных линий, ничего по­хожего на Белгородскую черту, и у татар появилась возмож­ность обхода укреплений Белгородской черты с запада.
Солдатские полки, сформированные в Яблонове, после за­вершения походов должны были вернуться на Белгородскую черту. Но военные действия не прекращались. В сложной внешнеполитической обстановке началась в 1656 г. русско-шведская война. Перемирие, заключенное с Польшей в том же году, оказалось непродолжительным. Все же в результате перемирия большая часть солдат была возвращена на черту. С 1656 г. полуофициальным центром укрепленной линии вместо Яблонова вновь стал Белгород. Руководство воо­руженными силами, находившимися у черты, включая дво­рян и детей боярских полковой службы, служилых людей городовой службы и солдат, сосредоточилось у белгородско­го воеводы князя Г. Г. Ромодановского.
