Костенко Владимир Полиевктович

Костенко Владимир Полиевктович (1881 —1956 гг.) — кораблестроитель, доктор технических наук, лауреат Государственной премии СССР. Родился в с. Великие Будищи Полтавской губернии.
Детские годы прошли в Вейделевке. С 1893 по 1900 г. учился в Белгородской мужской гимназии, по окончании которой (с золотой медалью) поступил на кораблестроительное отделение Морского инженерного училища в Кронштадте. С группой товарищей по учи­лищу участвовал в деятельности нелегального полити­ческого кружка. По выходе из училища был назначен на броненосец «Орел», на борту которого участвовал в Цу­симском сражении. На корабле Костенко продолжал нелегальную политическую работу, организовал кру­жок, в который одним из первых вошел баталер Алек­сей Новиков, впоследствии известный советский писа­тель А. С. Новиков-Прибои. Здесь началась их дружба.
К первому тому романа «Цусима» писатель сделал такое примечание: «В. П. Костенко, с которым я плавал на броненосце «Орел», оказался как герой настолько необходим для моей книги, что если бы его не сущест­вовало в природе, то пришлось бы такого выдумать.
Поэтому я уделяю ему в данном произведении так мно­го места. Он фигурирует у меня под псевдонимом инже­нера Васильева. В целях конспирации так называли его на судне в узком кругу матросов-революционеров. Но теперь мне кажется, что я напрасно своевременно не опубликовал его под настоящей фамилией».
После Великой Октябрьской социалистической рево­люции Костенко — на военно-инженерной работе. Он занимался реконструкцией кораблестроительных за­водов, работал в ВСНХ Украины, проектировал новые модели кораблей.
Перу Костенко принадлежит книга «На «Орле» в Цусиме», где он анализирует Цусимское сражение с позиции специалиста.
