Сукачев Владимир Николаевич

Сукачев Владимир Николаевич (1880—1967 гг.) — ученый в области естественных наук, академик АН СССР (с 1943 г.), Герой Социалистического Труда (1965 г.). Натуралист с широким диапазоном научных интересов, представитель докучаевской школы Сукачев известен всему миру как замечательный биолог и геог­раф, основоположник научных направлений в геобота­нике, лесоведении, палеоботанике. Родился в с. Александровка Харьковской губернии. В 1898 г. после окончания Харьковского реального училища поступил в Лесной ин­ститут в Петербурге, с которым связан значительный пе­риод его научной деятельности (1902—1941 гг.).
В 1934 г. Ленинградскому университету был передан природный заповедник «Лес на Ворскле». Организация лесостепной научно-исследовательской станции проходи­ла под непосредственным руководством Сукачева. В 1934—1941 гг. он не раз приезжал в Борисовку, жил и работал в заповеднике. В 1936 г. ученым заложен на его территории дендрарий — музей местных пород и экзотических растений, акклиматизированных в нашем крае. В память об ученом одно из уникальных мест «Леса на Ворскле», где растут древние дубы-исполи­ны, названо «Поляной Сукачева».
