Костенко Михаил Полиевктович

Костенко Михаил Полиевктович — электротехник, действительный член Академии наук СССР  (с  1953 г., член-корреспондент с 1939 г.), Герой Социалистическо­го Труда, лауреат Ленинской (1958 г.) и Государствен­ных (1949, 1951 гг.) премий СССР. Родился 16 (28) де­кабря 1889 г. в с.    Вейделеака    Валуйского уезда в семье земского врача. В 1900—1907 гг. учился в Бел­городской мужской гимназии, по окончании которой (с золотой медалью)  поступил в Петербургский универси­тет. В 1908г. перешел по конкурсу в Петербургский элект­ротехнический институт. За участие в студенческих волне­ниях в 1910 г. был исключен из института и сослан в Чердынский уезд Пермской губернии.      Возвратившись из ссылки в 1913 г., Костенко поступил в Петербургский политехнический  институт на  электромеханическое от­деление, по окончании которого в 1919 г. был оставлен для преподавательской деятельности. В 1924 г. Костен­ко избрали доцентом кафедры электрических машин, с 1930 г. он стал ее заведующим, с 1933 г. — профессором. Одновременно ученый работал на ленинградском маши­ностроительном заводе «Электросила» сначала    инже­нером, а затем — заведующим общезаводским бюро ис­следований. В 1939—1950 гг. М. П. Костенко — заведу­ющий лабораторией Энергетического института Акаде­мии наук СССР; в 1951—1955 гг. — заведующий Ленин­градским отделением Института автоматики и телемеха­ники АН СССР, в 1955—1966 гг. — директор Институ­та электромеханики АН ССР. В 1957—1963 гг. — член Президиума Академии наук СССР. Основные труды Костенко относятся к теории электрических машин и методам их экспериментального исследования и проек­тирования.
Умер в Ленинграде в 1976 г.
