Перекрытие земляным валом Муравской дороги

15 июня 1646 г. был принят указ о строительстве земляно­го вала, рва и других укреплений «меж Белгорода и Карпова сторожевья». Руководство работами возлагалось на главного воеводу Н. И. Одоевского. «Земляное дело» предлагалось ему «расписать на всех служилых людей», находившихся в полках дворянской конницы.
Среди непосредственных строителей вала были крепост­ные крестьяне и холопы, выполнявшие работу за своих гос­под-помещиков, работали также бывшие крестьяне двор­цовой Комарицкой волости, переведенные перед этим в дра­гуны. В строительстве укреплений участвовали и служилые люди «полевых» городов. Так, 336 белгородцев — детей бояр­ских полковой службы сделали 267 саженей вала, одну баш­ню и приказную избу в Болховце, курские служилые лю­ди—1306 человек строили г. Карпов и карповские укреп­ления.
Строительство земляного    вала    считалось «государевой службой» ратных людей, находившихся в полках дворянской конницы. Уже осенью 1646 г. основные работы были заверше­ны — насыпан земляной вал длиной в 14 верст 579 саженей (версты имелись в виду тысячесаженные), на валу устроены «земляные городки», при впадении колодезя Болховца в реч­ку Везеницу сооружен «земляной город» Болховой (Болховец). За валом был вырыт ров. На востоке земляной вал подходил к Северскому Донцу у устья речки Везеницы, на западе — к р. Ворскле, напротив Карпова сторожевья. Вал тянулся примерно на 30 км. Он был пока еще не «ослонен», то есть не укреплен дубовыми бревнами.
Осенью 1646 г. заново перестроен был и Карпов, ставший с этого времени жилым городом». Служилые люди, записанные на 1646 г. в «передовой полк», пришли в Карповский стоялый острог 18 июля 1646 г. под руководством воеводы В. П. Шереметева. Дерезянный острожек, построенный на Карповом сторожевье в 1644 г., оказался «худ, мал и ни­зок». 15 августа 1646 г. началось строительство нового де­ревянного города; завершилось оно той же осенью.
В новые города на Муравской дороге—Карпов и Болховец насильно переселяли («сводили») стрельцов, казаков, пушкарей из многих городов (Мценска, Орла, Курска, Ряж-ска, Михайлова, Тулы, Каширы, Черни, Новосиля, Кром, Ельца, Ливен, Оскола, Лебедяни и др.).
«На вечное житье» в Карпов были переселены комарицкие драгуны. За стенами деревянных крепостей возникли стрелецкие, казацкие, драгунские, пушкарские слободы, со­хранившиеся до сих пор в виде сел с такими же названиями. Земельные наделы приборных служилых людей здесь были меньше обычных: в Болховце казаки и драгуны получили по 10 четвертей земли в поле, стрельцы, пушкари и ворот­ники — по 7 четвертей. Освоенных прежде земель у Бол­ховца не было, служилые люди распахивали здесь ковыль­ную степь.
Земляной вал между Ворсклой и Северским Донцом пере­резал Муравскую степную дорогу. Путь татарам напрямик был закрыт, но оставалась опасность обхода укреплений, по­ворота татарских отрядов в сторону. Такую картину мы уже наблюдали на Ногайской дороге после строительства Козлов­ского вала, где татары стали поворачивать налево и обру­шиваться на Воронежский и Лебедянский уезды. В августе 1646 г. белгородцы («сын боярский Никита Филатов с товарищи») сообщили воеводе Н. И. Одоевскому о том, что тата­ры могут обойти новые укрепления с востока, воспользовав­шись перелазами на Северском Донце ниже г. Белгорода.
После разведки и описания берегов Северского Донца воевода Н. И. Одоевский распорядился строить небольшие земляные валы и другие укрепления на левом берегу Север­ского Донца у татарских перелазов. С 29 октября по 10 де­кабря 1646 г. был насыпан вал за р. Разумной; делали его комарицкие драгуны (500 чел.), ливенские полковые казаки (100 чел.) и рыльские стрельцы (50 чел.). Ниже, у Масловой слободки, путивльские и рыльские дети боярские поставили надолбы. Весной 1647 г. работы по укреплению левого бере­га Сев. Донца продолжались под руководством белгородско­го воеводы Т. Бутурлина.
Именно в это время (1647 г.) определились географиче­ские контуры укрепленной линии между городами Белгоро­дом и Корочей в виде выпуклой к югу дуги. Территория к юго-востоку от Белгорода между Северским Донцом и р. Ко­рочей до р. Нежеголи, как мы знаем, была уже заселена в начале XVII в. Осенью 1646 г. Н. И. Одоевский предполагал укрепить берега Сев. Донца вплоть до Салтовского городи­ща. Но весной 1647 г. Т. Бутурлин, отражая в данном слу­чае, видимо, интересы белгородских помещиков — детей бояр­ских, обосновал необходимость поворота укрепленной линии от Сев. Донца на восток по р Нежеголи.
Разрядный приказ санкционировал поворот укрепленной линии у р. Нежеголи; воевода Т. Бутурлин получил из Моск­вы похвалу за то, что уже начал строить Нежегольский стоя­лый острог («и ты то учинил добро»). Укрепления по р. Не­жеголи намечено было продлить на восток до Нежегольского леса. Они прошли по краю заселенной части Белгород­ского уезда, строили их белгородские служилые люди и дворцовые крестьяне посопной волости.
Т. Бутурлин попытался в 1647 г. ускорить строительство укреплений у рек Сев. Донца и Нежеголи. Белгородцам де­тям боярским полковой службы, только что построившим Нежегольский стоялый острог и установившим там сменный караул, он дал новое, почти непосильное задание. Каждый белгородец должен был сделать 7 саженей земляного вала у колодезя Ольшанца на левом берегу Сев. Донца и 3 са­жени вала у Нежегольского острога (то есть всего насыпать около 200 кубометров земли), а также привезти по 10 дубо­вых бревен на надолбы. Белгородцы дети боярские в кол­лективной челобитной писали в Москву, что такая работа им совершенно не под силу, тем более что крестьян и бобылей у них нет, «а которые, государь, крестьянишка и бобылишка были, и те, государь, разбрелись все по твоим, государевым, по новым, розным городам». Разрядный приказ вынужден был отменить распоряжение воеводы. Т. Бутурлин получил указание доделывать земляные валы «меж дел и не в пашен­ную пору».
Как мы видели, перекрытие земляным валом Муравской дороги в 1646 г. было в полном смысле слова общерусским делом. В строительстве вала принимали участие жители поч­ти всех областей России, военные операции в Приазовье обес­печили безопасность работ. Большой размах приняли и рабо­ты у Кальмиусской дороги, развернувшиеся в следующем, 1647 г.
