Борьба Московского государства с татарами в первой половине XVII века

Руководствуясь марксистско-ленинской методологией, со­ветские историки подняли разработку истории нашей стра­ны в XVII в. на качественно новую ступень. Большие резуль­таты были достигнуты в изучении социально-экономических проблем этого периода, особенно развития производительных сил, народных движений и классовой борьбы, а также вопро­сов внешней политики Русского государства.
Результатом многолетних исследований отношений между Русским государством и Крымским ханством явился труд видного советского историка А. А. Новосельского (1891 — 1967) «Борьба Московского государства с татарами в первой половине XVII века», вышедший в свет в 1948 г. В нем автор детально разбирает русско-крымские отношения в связи с международной обстановкой и внутренними социаль­но-экономическими процессами, протекавшими как в Русском государстве, так и в Крымском ханстве. В работе дано по­дробное описание татарских нападений на южные русские окраины и отпора, который давало татарам население. На истории сооружения укрепленных линий А. А. Новосельский решил специально не останавливаться, он оговаривает это в предисловии. «Не входя в исследование таких мер, как построение оборонительных черт, организация сторожевой и станичной службы,— пишет А. А. Новосельский,— мы имели в виду установление общей связи оборонительной политики московского правительства с ходом татарских нападений и международной обстановкой, а также — конкретное описа­ние татарских нападений и борьбы с ними». Исходя из та­кой установки и не останавливаясь на технической и орга­низационной стороне дела, А. А. Новосельский, кратко опи­сывает строительство Белгородской черты, попутно исправ­ляя отдельные фактические ошибки и неточности, допущен­ные Д. И. Багалеем. Кроме названной только что моногра­фии, А. А. Новосельский опубликовал еще ряд работ, способ­ствующих правильному пониманию социально-экономической обстановки в районе Белгородской черты, особенностей со­циального состава населения южных городов и уездов.
В 1955 г. под редакцией А. А. Новосельского и Н. В. Устюгова вышел в свет капитальный коллективный труд совет­ских историков «Очерки истории СССР. Период феодализма. XVII в.». Белгородская черта упоминается в этой книге мно­го раз; авторы говорят о ней в связи с народной колониза­цией южной окраины, системами земледелия, развитием процесса закрепощения крестьян и особенностями применения правовых норм, адми­нистративно-территориальным делением страны, русско-польскими войнами, борьбой России с татарами и Турцией. Но повсюду Бел­городской черте посвящено лишь несколько строк, и настоя­щей, хотя бы краткой истории ее нет.
Народные движения и классовая борьба на южной окраи­не России в XVII в. глубоко изучались Е. В. Чистяковой. Не­которые ее работы непосредственно относятся к Белгород­ской черте. Развитие торговли во второй половине XVII в. в ряде уездов на Белгородской черте прослежено В. М. Важинским.
Из работ общего характера, связанных с нашей темой, можно назвать книгу А. В. Чернова «Вооруженные силы Рус­ского государства в XV—XVII вв.» (1954), в которой рас­сматривается, в частности, состав Белгородского разрядного полка (к сожалению, вне связи с Белгородской чертой). В монографии А. Г. Манькова «Развитие крепостного права в России во второй половине XVII века» (1962) много места уделяется прикреплению крестьян к земле и сыску беглых на южной окраине России, в том числе и на Белгородской черте. Можно было бы указать еще на отдельные работы советских историков, связанные с нашей темой, но связь эта не будет очень прочной. Западные участки Белгородской черты иногда оказывались в поле зрения украинских иссле­дователей. Предпринимались попытки и археологического исследования укреплений Белгородской черты, общеисто­рическое значение которых пока невелико.
В конце 40-х годов XX в. к тщательному изучению Белгородской черты приступил воронежский историк В. И. Кошелев (1888—1962). Первые его статьи по этой теме были опубликованы в 1950 г., в дальнейшем появилось еще не­сколько статей. В. И. Кошелев использовал архивные до­кументы, скрупулезно рассматривал все детали, применял геодезическую съемку местности. Однако в своих работах он не ставил вопросов о Белгородской черте в целом, о ее гео­графических контурах, значении, намереваясь, видимо, сде­лать это позже, после изучения отдельных участков. Из 25 участков Белгородской черты В. И. Кошелев успел изучить лишь 3: Воронежский, участок Орлова-городка и Козловский  (последний — частично).
Итак, история строительства Белгородской черты, ее ме­сто в социально-экономической жизни юга России, в после­дующих внешнеполитических событиях изучены, совершенна недостаточно. Отсутствие специальной работы о Белгород­ской черте вело к путанице в понимании самого термина, неточностям в исследовательских работах по смежным во­просам. В качестве примера назовем хорошо аргументиро­ванную статью Л. В. Даниловой, посвященную историческим условиям развития русской народности в конце XV — начале XVII в. В статье можно прочитать, что Белгородская укреп­ленная линия была устроена во второй половине XVI в. и проходила «через Кромы, Ливны, Елец, Курск, Оскол, Бел­город, Воронеж, Валуйки, Царев-Борисов». Несколько - ошибок допущено в небольшой заметке В. С. Бакулина «Бел­городская черта», помещенной в Советской исторической эн­циклопедии. Уже первая фраза: «Белгородская черта — оборонительная линия на южной границе Русского государства в конце 16—17 вв.» — дезориентирует читателя. Можно по­думать, что Белгородская черта существовала в конце XVI в., причем проходила прямо по границе государства, но на са­мом деле ничего этого не было.
