Возведение 800-километровой Белгородской черты

Возведение 800-километровой Белгородской черты было большим событием в истории России XVII в. Труд многих тысяч русских людей, построивших замечательное для своего времени инженерное сооружение — Белгородскую черту, не пропал даром. Белгородская черта заслонила южные и центральные области России от грабительских набегов крымских татар, дала возможность освоить обширные территории плодородных земель, способствовала укреплению военного и экономического могущества России.
В литературе Белгородская черта обычно называлась оборонительной линией. Нам кажется, что строительство Белгородской черты  было не столько оборонительным  мероприя­тием, сколько своеобразной формой наступления  России  на татар, на Крымское ханство. В исторических условиях XVII и эта форма борьбы русского народа против татарской агрес­сии оказалась весьма эффективной.
Характерно, что далеко не всегда инициатива в созда­нии укрепленных районов — участков возникавшей Белгородской черты исходила от правительства или представителей местной власти — воевод. Козловский и усманский земляные валы были насыпаны по предложению мелких служилых лю­дей— знатоков местности, непосредственно заинтересованных в отражении татарских набегов. Умный и трудолюбивый на род находил лучшие способы борьбы с грабителями - татарами и умело применял их на практике.
Но в условиях господства феодально-крепостнической си­стемы хозяйства плодами успехов, завоеванных русским на­родом в упорной борьбе с иноземными захватчиками, поль­зовались в первую очередь представители господствующего класса. В последней четверти XVII в. в районах, защищенных Белгородской чертой,    начинает    быстро    распространяться крупное феодальное землевладение.
На усманском земляном валу, у пересечения вала совре­менной шоссейной дорогой стоит белый мраморный памятник. Надпись на нем рассказывает о времени сооружения Бел­городской черты, о ее назначении. Характерно, что памятник поставлен в наше время, советскими людьми, которые чтут боевые и трудовые подвиги своих предков.
