Прохоровка

Прохоровка — поселок городского типа (с 1968 г.), центр Прохоровского района, железнодорожная станция на линии Белгород—Курск, в 56 км к северу от Белго­рода.
В середине XVII в. помещики Ильинские получили земли близ Белгорода и образовали на них слободу. В годы гражданской войны Прохоровка не раз оказыва­лась в центре важных событий. В 1918 г. с этой стан­ции отправился на фронт 5-й Курский советский полк, сформированный из белгородских и грайворонских крас­ногвардейских и партизанских отрядов.
12 июля 1943 г. в ходе Курской битвы под Прохоровкой произошло самое крупное во время Вели­кой Отечественной войны встречное танковое сражение. О нем напоминает теперь Прохоровский народный му­зей боевой славы, созданный в 1970 г.
В 1988 г. в Прохоровке проживало 6,7 тыс. человек. В поселке — птицекомбинат, маслозавод, кирпичный и асфальтовый заводы, Дом культуры, 2 библиотеки с 89,5 тыс. книг.
В Прохоровской типографии печатается газета «Ком­мунист» — орган райкома КПСС и районного Совета народных депутатов. Объем—1 печ. л , тираж (1988 г.) — 8 тыс. экз. Выходит с 28 октября 1931 г. Тогда называ­лась «За колхоз». С 1 апреля 1933 г. до 23 января 1935 г. газета выходила под заголовком «За большевист­ский колхоз» (трехдневная газета Прохоровского рай­кома ВКП(б), райисполкома и райпрофсовета). С 25 ян­варя 1935 г. до 23 августа 1956 г. газета именовалась «Сталинец», с 26 августа 1956 г. — «Красный Октябрь». С 27 февраля 1963 г. получила нынешнее название.
