Ровеньки

Ровеньки — рабочий поселок (с 1976 г.), центр Ровеньского района. Ровеньки возникли в середине XVII в. как сторожевое поселение. Позже — купеческая слобода с тремя церквями и одной школой. Манифестация, посвя­щенная установлению в Ровеньках Советской власти, прошла 12 ноября (по ст. ст.) 1917г.
Более 5 тыс. жителей Ровеньского района с оружием в руках участвовали в  Великой  Отечественной  войне, четверым из них присвоено звание Героя Советского Со­юза, двое стали полными кавалерами ордена Славы, свы­ше двух тысяч награждены орденами и медалями.
Население райцентра в 1988 г. составляло 7,6 тыс. человек. В Ровеньках — головной маслосырзавод, рыб­хоз «Ровеньский», передвижная мехколонна и ряд других предприятий; Дом культуры, две библиотеки — 52,2 тыс. книг, музыкальная школа, краеведческий му­зей. В районной типографии печатается газета «Свет Октября» — орган Ровеньского райкома КПСС и рай­онного Совета народных депутатов. Объем 1 печ. л., тираж (в 1988 г.) 6,1 тыс. экз. Газета основана в мае 1931 г. Тогда она называлась «Ровеньский коллекти­вист» и выходила с этим названием до 1941 г. Выпуск газеты возобновился вскоре после освобождения Ровенек от оккупантов летом 1942 г. В октябре 1956 г. га­зета получила новое название «Коллективный труд», а в 1960 г. — «Свет Октября».
