Чехов Антон Павлович

Чехов Антон Павлович (1860—1904 гг.) — русский писатель. В его письмах несколько раз упоминается Белгород. В апреле 1887 г. об остановке в Белгороде по пути в Таганрог писатель рассказал в письме к сестре М. П. Чеховой. Возвращаясь в 1902 г. из Москвы в Ял­ту, он снова проезжал через Белгород и сообщал об этом в письме от 15 августа жене О. Л. Книппер-Чехо-еой. Третье письмо — матери, на нем рукой писателя проставлено: «23 апреля 1903, Белгород».
В 1904 г. с А. П. Чеховым переписывался белгород­ский актер и драматург П. Барвинский (три письма Барвинского к Чехову хранятся во Всесоюзной государ­ственной библиотеке им. В. И. Ленина).
В с. Ольховатке долгое время жили предки великого русского писателя. Дед, Егор Михайлович, и отец, Па­вел- Егорович, трудились на местном сахарном заводе и оставались крепостными до 1841 г., когда Е. М. Чехов сумел выкупиться со всей семьей на волю.
