Славутинский Степан Тимофеевич

Славутинский Степан Тимофеевич — русский писа­тель. Родился 11 (23) января 1821 г. в г. Грайворо­не в семье отставного военного. После смерти отца мать увезла сына в свое родовое поместье — сельцо Ми-хеево на Рязанщине. Материальные трудности застави­ли Славутинского, не окончив гимназии, поступить в 1839 г. на службу писцом в Рязанскую палату граждан­ского суда. С 1846 г. — чиновник особых поручений при губернаторе. Весной 1859 г. вышел в отставку и пе­ребрался на жительство в Москву, решив посвятить себя литературной деятельности (впервые стихи он опубли­ковал еще в 1857 г. в «Русском вестнике»). Сотрудни­чает в передовом журнале того времени — «Современ­нике». В шестой книжке журнала за 1859 г. опублико­вал повесть «Своя рубашка» (названную позднее «Мир­ская беда»), в девятой — лучшее свое произведение — повесть «Жизнь и похождения Трифона Афанасьева». В 1860 — начале 1861 гг. по поручению Н. А. Добро­любова с согласия Н. Г. Чернышевского и Н. А. Некра­сова вел в «Современнике» отдел «Внутреннее обозрение». Руководителей революционно-демократического журнала привлекали в Славутинском его богатейший жизненный опыт, знание провинциальной жизни, демо­кратические идеалы. В 1860 г., когда вышли отдельным изданием «Повести и рассказы С. Т. Славутинского», Добролюбов откликнулся на книгу статьей. Великий кри­тик считал особой заслугой автора «...мужественное, прямое и строгое воззрение на простой народ».
Подневольный труд и мытарства крестьян, произвол чиновников Славутинский показал и в романах «Бег­лянка» (1861 г.), «Капитан Перелетов» (1875 г.); ярки­ми документами эпохи крепостничества явились его очерки «Бунт и усмирение в имении Голицына», «Генерал Измайлов и его дворня» (1876г.).
Последние годы жизни С. Т. Славутинского прошли в Вильно, умер 17 (29) сентября 1884 г.
