Валуйки

Валуйки — город, центр Валуйского района. Распо­ложен у слияния рек Валуй и Оскол, в узле железно­дорожных линий на Старый Оскол, Георгиу-Деж, Купянск, Кондрашевскую. 34,4 тыс. жителей в 1988 г.; в 1913 г. около 8 тыс. жителей. Основан в 1599 г. как по­граничная крепость на южной окраине Русского госу­дарства. В первой половине XVIII в. Валуйки с уездом входили в состав Азовской губернии и Воронежской провинции, с 1779 до 1928 г. — в составе Воронежской губернии.
Валуйская городская организация РСДРП (б) была создана в октябре 1917 г. 25 января 1918 г. в Валуйках состоялся первый уездный съезд Советов. Председателем исполнительного комитета был избран большевик Т. В. Рындин, секретарем А. Ф. Авилов, делегат I Все­российского съезда Советов.
В годы Великой Отечественной войны с фашистскими оккупантами отважно сражались валуйские партизаны. Маршал Советского Союза А. М. Василевский в своей книге «Дело всей жизни» отмечал: «Большую роль при освобождении Валуек сыграли местные партизаны, которые по заданию... взорвали железнодорожное полот­но на участке Валуйки — Уразово и Валуйки — Волоконовка. Фашистам ничего не удалось вывезти из города». Валуйки были освобождены в ходе Острогожско-Россошанскои операции 19 января 1943 г. Первостепенной задачей для валуйчан стало вос­становление и налаживание четкой работы на железной дороге. И уже в 1943 г. коллективу Валуйского желез­нодорожного узла было присуждено Красное знамя Го­сударственного Комитета Обороны, а вагонному де­по — Красное знамя Наркомата путей сообщения и ВЦСПС.
Сегодня Валуйки — железнодорожный узел, который зовут северо-восточными воротами в Донбасс. В горо­де — мясной, молочный и консервный комбинаты, са­харный и маслоэкстракционный заводы. Валуйское пе­дагогическое училище — одно из старейших в Централь­ном Черноземье, в городе также есть медицинское и профессионально-техническое училище, пять средних школ, три библиотеки, Дом культуры и кинотеатр, 60 магазинов.
В Валуйской районной типографии печатается газета «Звезда» — орган Валуйского горкома КПСС, город­ского и районного Советов народных депутатов. Объем— 1 печ. л., тираж (1988 г.) 16,8 тыс. экз. Выходит с 11 де­кабря 1918 г., тогда называлась «Известия Валуйского уездного исполнительного комитета Советов рабочих, крестьянских и красноармейских депутатов» и печата­лась на 4 страницах большого формата. Вышло 69 номе­ров «Известий...», последний — 13 июня 1919 г., нака­нуне захвата Валуек деникинцами. В 1920 г. начала вы­ходить уездная газета «Коммунар», с начала 1921 г. — «Валуйский коммунар», а с № 53 — «Сеятель». С 12 фев­раля 1922 г. до конца 1925г. выходила двухразовая «ра­боче-крестьянская газета «Новый путь» — орган Валуй­ского укома РКП (б), исполнительного комитета уездно­го Совета и уездного профбюро. Возобновился выпуск га­зеты в Валуйках во время коллективизации. Орган рай­кома ВКП(б) «Знамя коммунизма» выходил в течение 31 года. С 4 января 1963 г. валуйская газета носит ны­нешнее название.
Валуйчане гордятся своими замечательными земля­ками: талантливым полководцем Н. Ф. Ватутиным, ученым-строителем Л. Д. Проскуряковым, бота­ником В. А. Величковским, художником А. И. Иг­натьевым, авиаконструктором К. А. Калининым.
