Белгородский государственный педагогический инсти­тут

Белгородский государственный педагогический инсти­тут им. М. С. Ольминского. В 1876—1917 гг. в Белгоро­де функционировал учительский институт с трехгодич­ным сроком обучения. В 1939 г. в городе на базе педа­гогического техникума был создан учительский инсти­тут с двухгодичным сроком обучения. В 1940 г. такой же институт открылся в Старом Осколе. После освобо­ждения области от немецко-фашистской оккупации во­зобновить работу смог лишь Старооскольский учитель­ский институт (с 1 октября 1944 г.). В Белгороде не уцелело ни одного здания. С 1956 г. Старооскольский учительский институт стал педагогическим, в августе 1957 г. его перевели в областной центр. С 1967 г. Бел­городский педагогический институт носит имя соратника В. И. Ленина, талантливого публициста М. С. Ольмин­ского.
За годы своего существования Белгородский педин­ститут подготовил тысячи учителей различных специ­альностей. Среди воспитанников вуза — заслуженные учителя школы РСФСР, отличники народного образова­ния, партийные, советские, научные работники, журна­листы. Сейчас на восьми факультетах института обуча­ется около пяти тысяч студентов. Занятия проходят в трех учебных корпусах (20 лекционных аудиторий, 42— для практических занятий, 46 лабораторий и кабинетов). В фонде библиотеки института — около 400 тыс. книг. Институт располагает концертным и читальными за­лами, спортивным комплексом, общежитиями.
На двух факультетах и на подготовительном факуль­тете для иностранных граждан в 1986 г. занимались 400 представителей 36 стран Европы, Азии, Африки и Латинской Америки. В свою очередь белгородские студенты постоянно стажируются или продолжают учебу в вузах ГДР, Франции и других стран. Выпускники ин­ститута работают за границей в качестве переводчиков, преподавателей школ и курсов русского языка.
С мая 1985 г. в институте выходит многотиражная га­зета «Учительская смена» (тираж 1500 экз).
