Ямская степь

Ямская степь — один из пяти участков Централь­но-Черноземного заповедника им. про­фессора В. В. Алехина. Расположена в семи километрах от г. Губкина.
История Ямской степи связана с историей одной из пригородных слобод Старого Оскола. В XVIII— XIX вв. в этой слободе жили ямщики, находившиеся в ведении Ямского приказа и обеспечивавшие передвиже­ние государственных чиновников и почты. Слобода име­ла собственные жалованные угодья — для выпаса и сенокошения. Общинное пользование землей предотвра­тило ее распродажу и способствовало сохранению цели­ны. Извечно непаханая Ямская степь сохранилась до наших дней.
Площадь Ямской степи — 463 га. На этом островке— остатке старой целинной степи — произрастают 578 ви­дов растений, исследованием которых занимаются уче­ные.
